This collection captures the authenticity and spirit of the artworks and upholds our intention of making art more accessible in daily life.

Our designs are perfectly suited to a museum or gallery environment, featuring historical works by the great masters of Chinese and Japanese art. Each of our products has its own story to tell and provides an educational introduction to East Asian art history. Our product range includes fashion accessories and homeware products: bags, scarves, aprons, cushion covers and oven gloves. We also create custom designs for museums and private clients.

Our ‘Art to Wear’ contemporary collection is more than just a design; it is reflective of artists’ direct involvement in the creative process. Affordable Art Fair, Battersea Park, 18-21 October

Journey to the East Art Gallery is pleased to present its artists Hong Bao, Wang Xiao Rong, Shen Jing Dong and Zhouzhou Zhou, who will be exhibiting at the Affordable Art Fair for the first time . The event will take place in London Battersea from the 18th-21st of October 2018.

JE Art Gallery has carefully selected some of the best up-and-coming Chinese Artists to present their works at this event. While they each have a unique style and creative method, they all represent modern art in China today.

Fresh colours, shapes, and a wind of contemporary Chinese culture will be ready to sway the audience. The artists use traditional techniques in many ways, but what makes their work captivating is the way they combine this tradition with modern techniques, materials and ideas.

Our artists are modern people, and they express this modernity beautifully in indifferent manners. Hong Bao’s interest lies in ancient painting techniques which she combines with her own modern touch. On the other hand, Wang Xiao Rong uses objects such as leaves and paper in her paintings along with ink which creates three-dimensional pieces. Zhouzhou Zhou works with traditional ink techniques, combining them with western art theories. Finally, Shen Jing Dong, who is mostly known for his pop “Hero” series of depicted soldiers, is interested in binging humour into uncomfortable political situations.

Join us at Hyper Japan 2017 - JE Gallery 'The Floating World of Ukiyo-e' Collection

Journey to the East Gallery is pleased to announce a showcase of our classical Ukiyo-E collection at Hyper Japan, Tobacco Dock, 14-16 July. The annual event celebrates all things Japanese, featuring traditional and contemporary exhibitions, performance, art and culture. Journey to the East Art Gallery will be focusing on bringing in the best artworks and gifts representing the rich history of Japanese culture.

The history of Ukiyo-E

Ukiyo-E translates as ’Picture of the floating world’. It emerged between the 17th and 19th centuries during the Edo Period and was characterised by accessible and popular artworks. They were collected by the merchant class and used to decorate their homes. Ukiyo-E artworks typically comprise  carved woodblock  prints with different areas of colour. Popular themes included Kabuki actors, landscapes and folktales.

Ukiyo-E played a vital role in forming the West’s views towards Japanese art, hence the study of “Japonism” emerged, which had a strong influence on Impressionist artists and further towards Post-Impressionist and Art Nouveau.

Please come along to the event on 14-16th July to see our full range of the collection and immerse yourself to a truly unique experience of Japanese culture.

It has been present in the UK from the 17th century Europe and became very fashionable in the 18th century due to the rise in trade with China and East Asia.

About the Artist – Chang Liu

Artist Liu experiments with ink and color to capture unpredictable moments of beauty. Her work has a unique and distinctive quality, depicting mythological animals and beautiful vegetation which represent fortune and good luck. We have worked with the Artist to produce beautiful pure silk scarves based on some of her best artworks. As a protein fibre, silk has warm and lightweight qualities which perfectly capture the softness and the elegance of Chang Liu’s Painting. You can almost touch and feel of the goldfish that swim gently around the water lilies.

About the Artist – Zhouzhou Zhou

The beauty in artistic conception lies at the core of beauty in form. Characterised by an elegant painting style and novel composition, Zhouzhou Zhou’s works emanate a sense of simplicity, upliftment and freedom.

The silk scarves have a design derived from Zhou’s abstract contemporary ink painting which is vivid and well-arranged. The silk fabric is an appropriate canvas for Zhou’s luxuriant images and these scarves will without doubt wrap you in warmth and beauty.

Still made in China? How much do you know about Chinese Contemporary Art & Design?

This October, Journey to the East Gallery is pleased to collaborate with the China Design Centre and E Global, to exhibit the works of four exceptional Chinese artists in the Bloomsbury Festival. The event is a creative explosion of arts, culture and science. This year it is inspired by the  theme of ‘Language’, Journey to the East Art Gallery have chosen the best art works and gifts to represent the unique language of contemporary oriental art.

A Little Bit of History: East Meets West in Art

Since 19 centuries in Western Europe, the influence of East and South Asian products imported by the English, Dutch, and French East India Companies had a significant impact on style and art. East and South Asian art has had a profound impact on European artists, fascinated by oriental design, architecture and decorative arts. They developed a ‘chinoiserie style’ (characterised by the use of Chinese motifs, shapes, and materials) that gained popularity in Europe.

However, for the last 30 years China has been the workshop of the world. Growth in manufacturing  has transformed it into the world’s secondlargest economy. But now this model starting to change as it increasingly uses its ‘soft power’ to cultivate its international image. Contemporary Chinese art & design is central to this developmentand ‘Made in China’ is gradually shifting towards ‘Designed in China’ and ‘Created in China’.

Journey to the East Art Gallery brings you the best in oriental art. We regularly travel throughout China to seek out the most talented emerging artists and provide a platform to present their work to European collectors. In addition to original artwork and limited edition prints, we also produce a range of beautiful gifts based on contemporary and classic artworks.
